Digital Nikon D2x and Seacam system

Borut Furlan relatively long resisted the general switching to digital technology, because he didn't see any sense in using a new, very expensive and untried technology, which resulted in photos of less image quality than those made by film cameras. Even when digital photos are much easier to make, he preferred the quality of the end product, so he skipped digital technology until Nikon finally made the D2x. But because of the smaller format of the digital sensor (so called DX format  which is 1.5 times smaller than film) he had to buy also 10.5 mm f/2.8 Fisheye lens, 12-24 mm f/4 wide-angle zoom lens, and 17-55 mm f/2.8 “classic reporter” lens for land photography.

When buying the underwater housing for the new D2x, Borut was luckily sponsored by Harald Hordosch, the owner and constructor of the Seacam company with all the accessories, in exchange for 50 copies of Borut's new book, the photo monograph A Journey into the Silent Worlds, which just came out at the time (2006)..

In 2007 Borut also had to exchange his TTL film strobes, which were not compatible with the new digital cameras, for the new Seaflash 250 TTL digital strobes. But he also learned how to set old strobes manually very quickly, because digital technology makes it possible to analyse the photo and make corrections on the spot. Soon he realised that TTL automatics is not needed in digital photography so much as it was before.

Today Borut Furlan uses for underwater photography:
